The Real Reason You Can’t Hit It Straight, And It Isn’t Your Swing
Launch monitor data says the clubface decides where your ball starts. Your hands set the face. Here is what happens to them between the first tee and the ninth green, and how to stop it.

Which one of those did you hit last time out?
If your ball starts left and keeps turning left, the face came back closed. If it starts right and keeps leaking right, it came back open.
Either way, look at how small the miss actually is.
About two degrees.
Not two degrees of talent. Two degrees of face angle.
TrackMan’s radar data shows the clubface controls roughly 75 to 85 percent of where your ball starts. The face is the steering wheel. Your swing path is the passenger.
So the question was never what is wrong with your swing.
It is what puts the face two degrees off before you ever take it back.
Look at your lead hand

Go get a club. This takes ten seconds.
Take your normal grip and look down at the hand closest to the grip cap.
If your thumb runs straight down the top of the shaft, there it is. That is the two degrees.
The face is a mirror of your hands. Rotate them slightly and the face rotates with them, and it stays rotated all the way to impact, no matter how good the swing in between looks.
Which is why you can rebuild a swing for a year and keep the same curve.
The problem isn’t knowing. It’s holding.
Here is the part nobody warns you about.
You can be shown the correct grip. Most golfers have been. A lesson, a video, a buddy on the range who moves your hands for you.
And it works.
For about four swings.
Then you regrip. You waggle. You walk to the next tee, set up, and your hands go back to the place they have been for twenty years.

That is grip drift, and it is happening to you every single round.
You do not feel it happen. That is the whole problem. Your hands do not announce that they moved. The ball does, about two seconds later, and by then it is already gone.
A checkpoint you have to remember loses to a habit you already built. Every time.
And every ball you hit with the old grip is another rep burning it deeper.
What it is costing you
Arccos tracked more than five million rounds for its 2026 driving report. 45 percent of the highest handicap golfers’ drives ended in a penalty or a recovery shot. For low handicap golfers it was 12 percent.
That gap is not swing speed and it is not talent. It is how often the face comes back square.
Every round you play with a two degree miss is a round spent hitting your second shot from somewhere you did not choose.
Why the things you have already tried did not hold

Every fix on the market tells your hands where to go. Not one of them keeps your hands there. That is the difference, and it is the only one that matters.
A lesson tells you where your hands go.
Then it ends, and your hands are on their own for the next four hours. The TrueGrip is still on the club at the ninth.
An alignment cue asks you to remember a checkpoint.
Remembering is the exact thing that fails under pressure on the first tee. There is nothing to remember when your hands physically cannot reach the wrong spot.
A soft moulded trainer with a hole through it flexes under load.
Give it a full swing and it moves, so the position you set is not the position you swing. One solid piece of moulded polycarbonate does not flex.
A trainer built into a replacement grip has to be installed, and then it never comes off.
You cannot train with it and play with it gone. This clips on and pulls off in about three seconds, with no tools and no tape.
A trainer that only fits a standard grip is not built for your hands.
Thicker grips are on your clubs for a reason, and most trainers will not go around them. Standard, midsize, oversize and jumbo all work, and it is sized for large hands.
What actually holds a grip in place

It is one solid piece of moulded polycarbonate that clips over the grip already on your club.
The body has sculpted channels cut into it, one for each finger, set at the angles a neutral grip puts them. Your hands go on and they drop into place.
And then they stay there.
Not because you are concentrating. Because there is nowhere else for them to go. The channels occupy the space your old grip used to live in.
Rotate your lead hand under and it does not fit. Slide your trail hand down and it does not fit. You can swing as hard as you want and the position holds, because holding it is the only thing the device does.
You cannot cheat it. That is the entire mechanism.
So how fast does it work?
Your grip is fixed the second it is on. First rep, first swing. There is no learning curve because the trainer is doing the holding, not you.
What takes a little longer is making it feel like your own grip with the trainer off. Most golfers say that lands somewhere around the two week mark.

How golfers actually use it
-
Clip it on
It goes over the grip already on your club. Driver, woods, hybrids, irons, wedges. Every full swing club in the bag.
-
Hit balls like normal
Range, back garden, garage net, or slow swings in the living room. Every rep is a rep with your hands in the right place.
-
Take it off and go play
Three seconds. Most golfers keep one in the bag and put it on for a few swings before the first tee.

What golfers said once their hands stopped moving
Fought a slice for years and this thing fixed it in a couple weeks. It forces your hands into the right position so you can’t cheat it. Wish I’d found it sooner.
My consistency has come a long way since I started using the TrueGrip. It keeps my hands from drifting back into bad habits, and it takes about ten seconds to clip on. Couldn’t be easier.
I was struggling with consistency until I tried the TrueGrip. It locked my hands into a neutral grip and showed me what I’d been doing wrong. I’m finding way more fairways now.
What it costs
A lesson with a teaching pro runs $80 to $150 for the hour.
And when the hour is up you drive home and your hands are on their own again, which is where this started.
A new driver runs $450 and does nothing about the two degrees.
The TrueGrip Trainer is $39.99, once, and it holds the grip for you on every club and every rep for as long as you own it.
30 days. Put it on and find out.
Clip it on, hit balls for a month, and watch what your ball flight does. If it hasn’t tightened up, email us and we’ll refund you. The risk of finding out sits with us, not with you.
There are two ways this goes
You put it on
- Your hands go where they should, on every rep, without you thinking about it.
- The face starts coming back square, so the ball starts going where you aimed.
- Nothing else about your swing has to change.
You do not
- Next Saturday you stand on the first tee and still do not know which miss is coming.
- Every ball you hit burns the old grip a little deeper.
- And the fix was always two degrees away.
Knowing the right grip was never the problem. Holding it was.
